Now as we move into the Triduum, we accompany Jesus from the Last Supper, the institution of the Priesthood and Eucharist, his betrayal, unjust condemnation, crucifixion, death, and to his burial. Like the grieving apostles and disciples, we are left still and silent on Holy Saturday. Unlike them, when all this first took place, we know what is to follow. We console ourselves and remember that the God of the universe, of all that is seen and unseen, did this willingly, lovingly, to save us and undo Death itself.
Very soon we shall sing Alleluia again. In the mean time, we can allow sorrow and repentance side by side with hope.
