Our Comic Strip
There are fads that come and go in mankind`s seemingly endless quest to find happiness in almost anything and anyone so long as it is not God. Keeping God and the goal of being with him forever in eternity does not require any complicated methods. As it is the month of October, dedicated to the Rosary, it is a good time to recommend this simple and very effective prayer that helps us build the practice of filling our minds with Jesus. While the repetition of the prayers along the rosary beads may sound boring initially, it helps train the body and the mind. The fingers and mouth participate as the mind learns to linger with each mystery. Soon enough ten beads are transformed into ten steps side by side with Mary leading us to her Son. Mary always leads us closer to her Son, never away. She wants our minds filled to capacity with Jesus, even more than we do. #sisterreginacomicstrip
At the Annunciation Mary said "Fiat! Let it be to me according to your word." She said `yes` to Resurrection Joy as well as to Passiontide Sorrow. She knew her Son was God, that he was the Word. That whatever he said was God`s will so it was also more than fitting for her last words in the Gospel to be, "Do whatever he tells you." She said `yes` to everything God wanted before knowing what it would entail. A complete, blind, trusting beautiful `yes`. When we do whatever Jesus tells us in the same way, we are acting out a complete, blind, trustingly beautiful `yes` as well. #sisterreginacomicstrip
There is a saying about monastic life, or any religious life for that matter, "The big things get small, but the small things get big." Compared to people in the world, a monk or nun will find the `big things` like the things they did in the world to pay their taxes, loans, car payments, mortgage etc seem to vanish or get small, freeing up the person for an undistracted pursuit of God. Compared to God, all things seem small. But as human beings, the little things, even for nuns, can then become big. A woman can divest herself of career, job, house, car, etc., and find smaller things grow in size in the monastery that can also serve the devil`s purpose of keeping one from an undistracted pursuit of God. It could be saving that old holy card that`s too beautiful to part with or keeping something broken but that might be useful to someone `someday`. Being human, the small things can be clung to too. Thus another saying becomes very apropos, "Hang on to Jesus. Drop everything else like a rock!" #sisterreginacomicstrip
