We live in historic and unprecedented times where each month, it seems, events transpire which have never happened before. Already our Holy Father has been a catalyst for these occasions such as that unforgettable March last year when he stood before an empty Saint Peter’s square and gave Benediction (and hope) to a suffering world.
Now, for the first time, he will travel to Iraq to live his solidarity with the poor and suffering and persecuted. It will not be without it’s dangers and his life, as well as the lives of all those gathering to see him (Christians and non-Christians alike) will be at great risk. Let us focus our Lenten penances and offerings this weekend on the safety and success of Pope Francis’ journey and the fruits it will bear in the Church.
