Bean Shelling in the Summer
Thanks to the generosity of so many local gardeners we enjoy a bounty of produce, fresh vegetables, homemade jams, and homemade canned goods in abundance throughout the year. Recently, we received our first sample of “Peanut beans” and “Shelly beans” and spent an evening recreating around the refectory table as we learned to string (or unstring) the green beans and shell the Shelly beans. Another Sister looked up recipes to experiment with as we gratefully partake of God’s providence brought to us by kind neighbors in East Tennessee. May God bless their gardens and their generosity!
