Rev. Mother Marietta, HPB and Sister Sarah Michael, HPB recently visited the Passionist Nuns of Saint Joseph in Whitesville, KY as a working trip to share resources and discuss ways cloistered communities are implementing the new directives of Cor Orans and more fully embracing the pastoral recommendations in the Apostolic Constitution Vultum Dei Quaerere. Mother John Mary, CP and Sister Mary Veronica, CP hosted Mother and Sister Sarah Michael for their stay sharing Mass, the Divine Office, prayers and working meetings in an atmosphere of charity and hospitality. We are grateful for their assistance and delighted to share in mutual encouragement.
It may surprise people to learn that Vatican Documents can be inspiring and beautiful. To be sure, Cor Orans (an Instruction on how to implement Vultum Dei Quaerere) is more juridical in nature as that’s its purpose: educating cloistered nuns more precisely in what the Church desires them to do to safeguard what is beautiful and powerful about our vocation. Vultum Dei Quaerere, Sponsa Christi, Verbi Sponsa, Perfectae Caritatis and a host of other writings over the last century all have a wonderful quality that can provide for more meditation on the powerhouse of prayer that nuns are meant to be in the Church. We welcome the guidance of Holy Mother Church even as we pray and sacrifice for her in these troubled and turbulent times.
